King Jack and the Dragon

At the moment…we seem to be into pirates and dragons and all things make believe. Oh, to be young and have an imagination that knows no bounds! Well, Peter Bently obviously knows a thing or two about boys and what they like to get up to and he brings it to us in a lovely storybook, King Jack and the Dragon. It is most suitably illustrated by the one and only Helen Oxenbury from We’re Going on a Bear Hunt fame. This dynamic duo does not disappoint.

With gently lilting rhyming verse we progress through the day with King Jack and his trusty men, Zack and Caspar, as they construct their fort, do battle with dragons and beasts and finally return to their fortress for something to eat. As darkness begins to fall, one by one his men are carried off by “giants” until Jack is left all alone. Will he be brave and tough it out…

King Jack and the Dragon

A great bedtime story!
