And the Winner Is…the 2014 Caldecott Awards

Have you heard?

Locomotive by Brian Floca won the 2014 Caldecott medal. Congratulations to Brian on a brilliant book. As I said earlier, if you have a child who loves trains OR history this is a great book for you. So beautifully illustrated – a book to read over and over.

Three books were names Caldecott Honor Books this year. They are:

Journey by Aaron Becker – my personal favorite. This unspeakably beautiful book takes the reader to not just one – but many other worlds – visually exploring each, and allowing the reader the opportunity to tell the story as he, or she, sees fit.

Flora and the Flamingo by Molly Idle. A flamingo and a little girl come together in another wordless picture book to create a beautiful tale of friendship.

Mr. Wuffles by David Wiesner. A cat who doesn’t like mice but is fascinated by aliens, aliens who forge a friendship with insects behind a radiator to repair the damage to their spaceship brought on by the overzealous cat…and a secret code. What more can you possibly ask for in a good book!
