The Ephemeral Landscape
As I spend more time photographing landscapes I am coming to appreciate the dynamic state of many compositions. There are, of course, many ways to incorporate dynamism into a composition. The type of dynamism I want to discuss in this blog is the result of changes over time. I have many landscape photos that can no longer be duplicated. For one reason or another, the sites have changed.
Photographing the American Dipper
The target for our vlog video this afternoon was Gateway Natural Area. We had wanted to return for a couple of reasons. The first and biggest was to see if the Pygmy Owls had returned to nest in the picnic area. The second was to photograph Kingfishers, of which we had seen plenty in past visits. These goals were not to be met. Well, mostly not met. A park ranger would distract us by dangling the offer to see an American Dipper’s nest. The offer was way too tempting.
Chasing the Light
We started our Moose Mission when we received reports of multiple gatherings of moose in Rocky Mountain National Park. The two sites that we were most interested in were Sheep Lakes and Sprague Lake. So, come Saturday morning we hauled our cameras and equipment to Sheep Lake to see what we could see. No moose. After a couple of hours of waiting for some sort of activity, we headed over to Sprague Lake.
