Dragon Fly Caught on the Fly

Photo of a dragonfly caught in mid flight, with wings frozen in position against a gray sky

We were sitting on the patio having our morning coffee, watching the ducks in the pond. This dragon fly kept darting about in the field between us and the pond. After watching it for a while we realized that it always had the same starting point for each time it darted out. It would always come back to the same point. I, being a photographer, had my camera with the 200-600mm lens at my side. What followed was a quick series of shots at various shutter speeds and apertures and this is the result. I love the detail in this shot, though it is a very severe crop.
